Excerpt length conflict

I have a slider embedded on the homepage along with posts in the content area. If I set the excerpt length in the slider plugin settings, it adjusts the excerpt length for the slider and my content’s excerpt length. Is there a way to set the excerpt length for the slider outside of the plugin’s settings?
