    Are there any other options to make excerpts (work)?

    Excerpts are handled by core normally, and they work fine. You have a plugin that is changing a lot of things, so you should ask in that support forum for help with that code.

    in your posted screenshot. ‘no custom excerpts’ is ticked(?)… is this on purpose?

    @alchymyth no, I deactivated it now, but it still doesnt seem to work
