After activating the WP YouTube Lyte plugin, excerpts on the homepage are shown in full.

I would highly appreciate it if you could look into it.

So is this theme-specific, or does it also happen on one of the WordPress default themes (twenty-xyz)?

I didn’t have a chance to test it with twenty-n themes.

I however did try to comment out any excerpt-related functions in the theme to no avail.

just tested on twentynineteen and worked as intended, so probably a problem specific to your theme?
