Exclude categories from all recent posts?

I want to show recent posts but exclude certain categories. The excludeposts seemed the right thing, but it wasn’t. How can i do this? I can’t see id numbers.

[catlist excludeposts=this,emea-bw,apac-bw,na-bw,global-bw numberposts=5 orderby=date date=yes]
