Exclude post if already shown

On my website I have a ‘featured’ posts section at the top which displays the three most recent posts from four main categories.

Further down the page I want to display the full list of news for each respective category, with a type of ‘mini-featured’ image.

Here’s the catch – I want to display the full list of news for each respective category EXCLUDING the latest post from that category if it is displaying in the main featured section at the top of the page.

In summary, how can I conditionally exclude a post from being displayed further down the page if it is currently featured at the top of the page?

I’m sure this shouldn’t be too challenging. Thanks.
