Thank you for using our plugin Alan.
I’m afraid I can’t understand your second part of the message, in regards to the Members plugin. Can you please tell us which plugin is this exactly and how the Members plugin is related or could be related to this problem?
Looking forward to hearing from you.

Sorry for the confusion. This is the Members plugin that I referred to: https://ww.wp.xz.cn/plugins/members/
We use the Members plugin to define our own roles and have more control over their capabilities.
The bbp_participant role is created by the bbPress plugin (https://ww.wp.xz.cn/plugins/bbpress/). The Members plugin is not directly related to the problem but I mentioned it just becuase it highlights this role as being a special role and won’t allow it to be edited. I assumed that was the same reason that your plugin doesn’t recognise this role but that is just my guess.
Thank you for the details and explanation. We will look into this / run some tests and we’ll keep you posted.
Hello, after researching this we found out that the roles created by bbPress are not roles registered in WordPress, but forum roles (kind of capabilities), so since technically they are not roles our plugin does not recognize them.
Other plugins register WordPress user roles and our plugin can successfully recognize them, plugins like WooCommerce and Yoast.
Maybe at this stage the best option you have is to use a plugin like User Role Editor, create a role for them and assign that role to all users who have that bbPress role, and then you can exclude that role.
I hope the above helps. Should you have any further questions or need further assistance, please do not hesitate to ask.
