I have my WordPress installation in the root folder, and my forum under a “forums” subdirectory. The Wordfence security plugin is causing issues with the forum section, and so want to turn off the firewall for anything in the forums folder, or any of the forums subfolders.

I’ve read about user.ini, adding things to the .htaccess file but I am still unclear on what to do. Are you supposed to add a user.ini file to every single folder under forums, or just the forums folder, and that will cater for any subfolders under the forums folder?

What should I be doing?

If you have already read the instructions below and you are still not sure how to proceed then I would like to have a look at your Wordfence diagnostics report. Please go to the top of the “Diagnostics” tab on the Wordfence “Tools” page. There will be a “SEND REPORT BY EMAIL” button to send the diagnostics report. Enter wftest [at] wordfence [dot] com as the email and jon123456 as the forum username please.

Once you have emailed me the diagnostics report can you reply here to let me know that it has been sent. This is important in the unlikely event that your installation of WordPress is having an issue with sending mail.

Thanks for that link. I had not seen that article before. I am trying the recommendations to see if they work.
