    Hi,
I'm trying to set up Google site kit and Google Analytics, when trying to set it up I am getting an error that an existing tag is on the page.
I installed monsterinsights, however uninstalled it and deleted the plugin as I opted to use Google Site Kit.
I have found the tag in the source code of the website, but I can't seem to find it in the header or footer anywhere in the code of the website?

Could anyone advise how to remove it?

I have checked all the header.php and footer.php files.

Interestingly I re-installed monster insights and it seems to be functioning perfectly, however when I completely uninstalled the plugin, the UA code still exists on the website and I can’t remove it as I can find it.

Hi @tojla thanks for getting in touch. I can see the UA code you are referring to ending UA-******74-1. When you have the monster insights plugin active are you able to go to the settings and disable the Analytics set up? If so try this and see if you can then connect through the Site Kit Analytics module.

Have you also tried checking other installed plugins to see if it has also been configured there? Again, if this is the case then try removing this setting and attempting Site Kit Analytics set up once more.

If you are still having issues at this point could you please share your Site Health information. You can use this form to share privately if preferred.

    Hey,

    Thanks for the reply!

I have tried deactivating all plugins, and then trying site kit and had the same issue. I also went through monster insights and deactivated tracking, and then also encountered the same issue.

I am really struggling to find the source of this google analytics code.

I deactivated all plugins, excluding site kit and still could not get site kit to work.

    Thanks

@tojla No problem and thanks for providing the information. Can I just confirm that with all plugins except for Site Kit deactivated, you still see this message when trying to connect Analytics?

If the UA code remains on your site after all plugins have been disabled then it is likely that this has either been manually placed by an admin of the site or by your hosting provider. If you have a website developer then they should be able to help you locate exactly where the code has been placed.

If the UA code disappears when disabling all plugins then this points to a specific plugin placing the snippet. You could then try disabling the plugins one by one, checking Site Kit between to see which is causing this snippet to be placed on your site. I would also recommend following the steps in our troubleshooting guide for this.

I can’t see anything that stands out from the Site Health Information so hopefully following these steps can help you to identify what is causing this.
