I use SSL admin-wide as well, and I’m not experiencing this symptom. So, unfortunately, I’m going to have to recommend what all plugin developers recommend: disabling all plugins, switching to a known good theme like TwentyFifteen, and seeing if you can reproduce it in that state. If so, or you have any further clues about how I might be able to reproduce this issue, please do let me know.

Correction–this just started happening in a way I can reproduce now. So, it must be something to do with an update to WordPress. I will have a look.
Meanwhile, even if the example is not displaying after saving the keys, I do see that the reCaptcha does draw correctly on my login, and is defending the site.
So, it’s working–but it will be good to get the example to display again. Will have a look at the weekend.
