Hi there, and thanks for checking this out so early in development.
There are no exact plans yet, but you’re on the right track. Hierarchical terms are a challenge because the UI in WordPress for them is already pretty poor, and presenting hierarchical data in a table with rows and columns doesn’t work very well at all.
Today, I think the idea of showing and hiding children is out of scope, but that’s mostly because I haven’t really thought about it for very long, and hence have no imagined a solution to this problem that I’m happy enough with to implement.
If you have suggestions, I’m happy to continue talking about them here if you are!
Hi John,
Many thanks for the quick reply 🙂 I have a few examples of accordion / expandable list with sub elements.
Would be a great addition I think to the reordering functionality of your plugin … as you say there is nothing existing to neatly manage a large number of categories
Menus Examples
The first two examples are menu examples …. as menus already have the re-order functionality … these add the accordion / expandable functionality … but this would be how I would envisage it for categories too.

Page Examples
There are a couple of example for pages … they work slightly differently … not sure if technically they are more aligned

Category list in posts
I use this plugin already … it is extremely useful … but only works with in posts / post lists … It looks like someone was requesting what I am suggesting … but the developer has not responded.
Could even be the potential to usurp this plugin with the added functionality of your existing plugin

I am not a wordpress developer … but would be very happy to user test / collaborate / discuss / make suggestions on UI 🙂 Think it would make the plugin the powerhouse in WordPress Category Management
