• Simple question: my current blog is at http://dailymisery.alvinwoon.com
I want to move it to my main domain at htt://www.alvinwoon.com
Any idea what’s the best way to do this. Anything can be fresh install, its ok for me but what’s the most important thing for me is to move all my previous postings archive to the main domain.
    * I did try to search by typing key words like ‘import /export wordpress’ but to no vail. Hope you guys wont mind passing the links if such threads have been posted before*
    Bunch of thanks.

  • “Moving WordPress” would have been good keywords too! But at least you tried.
    This wiki page will help.

    Hehehe…thanks a bunch NuclearMoose.

I tried following the link to the wiki page and was told that it contained no text. Seeing how I’m in the same boat, I’d appreciate either a working link to the wiki or an overview on how to do it.

To move your blog from one directory to another:

In Options, change BOTH urls to where the blog is going
Then without doing anything else at all in the admin screens, use your ftp client or cpanel to actually move all the files
Then you can return to admin and all should be well.

If you are moving the blog from one serve to another, or from another domain, there are some guides which may help here:

The Wiki is old, out of date, and technically worthless now. Someone really needs to redirect it to the new Codex. This would be the correct page: http://codex.ww.wp.xz.cn/Moving_WordPress

While I appreciate the information on the Moving_Wordpress page, is there any plugin (or other option I’ve missed) that would allow “importing from WordPress to WordPress”?

For instance, when moving a site to a completely new server, I’d like to just point at the old server and suck in all the old data. This also might simplify the process of upgrades —

    1) Install clean installation/database (often automated by hosting provider)
    2) copy in themes, plugins and ???
    3) Then just “import” all the content stored in the old database.

This is essentially the process described in the Codex for “Moving to a New Server with Fantastico” but with some automation in the database backup and restore and the changes necessary – so I’m wondering if anyone has done that automation.

    Thanks much!

    Not as of now.
