Exporting and editing wordpress pages

I need to change the meta data for over 400 pages on my wordpress site but rather than going through individually I was wondering is there a way I could export the wordpress xml file, edit in (and in which programme) and then re upload the xml back into wordpress with the updated meta tags?

If anyone can provide steps and programmes to use that would be much appreciated.
