I’m quite a beginner at this so apologies if this is a silly question.

My site (in progress) is expattmagazine.com.

I’ve installed the plugin and so far found it great and very easy to use, but the ad links take me to an internal page which looks something like this: http://expattmagazine.com/adverts_posts/www-keeneland-com/
instead of simply going to http://www.keeneland.com.

There’s a good chance this is because I didn’t install the plugin properly- I had a lot of trouble with adding the short code (the 5th step of the installation).

Any thoughts on where I have gone wrong?

Hi Kate,

No such thing as a silly question. And I can guarantee that the plugin and shortcode are functioning as expected. I believe it is more how the link is setup that is the problem.

On the advert in the admin, are you missing the protocol on the link (http://)?

When setting up links, if the protocol is omitted, it is seen as a relative link, so it will append to whatever is in the address bar at the time (the following examples are based on if you were on “http://yourdomain.com/subpage/”):
- http://www.theirwebsite.com would go to http://yourdomain.com/subpage/www.theirwebsite.com
- /anotherpage/ would go to http://yourdomain.com/anotherpage/
- http://www.theirwebsite.com would go to http://www.theirwebsite.com

Aha! I knew it had to be something simple!
