What do you mean by ‘the domain is not involved in the redirect at all’? In what way is it external?
Which is the site with Redirection installed?
My development space is where the plugin is installed: https://matec.stephenbstarrdesign.info/test-for-redirect/
The live domain will be https://matec.info. I won’t be using Redirection for https://matec.info/test-for-redirect >> https://matec.info/new-hyperlink. Rather, a moXmi event link will be redirected to a caspio event, both third party suppliers. So I’d want to redirect:
Source:
https://www.matec.info/co/event_update.php?ER_ID=37513
Redirect:
https://matec.caspio.com/dp/BA50700090280c9da9194a3daf9c?ER_ID=37513&l=
Does that make sense? At any rate, I did not succeed in my first test attempt.
I don’t fully understand, but if you are redirecting a site other than the one where Redirection is installed you should read this guide:
https://redirection.me/support/redirecting-another-site/
An easier analogy:
Let’s say I’ve got a hyperlink in my content that goes to a YouTube video. I decide I want to redirect my hyperlink to another video.
Source:
https://youtube.com/video1
Redirect:
https://youtube.com/video2
According to the article you reference:
Is it possible to redirect an external site you don’t have control over?
No. This is not possible using Redirection or any other technique. You need control over a domain in order to redirect it.
Perhaps Redirection won’t do what I want.
If you want to redirect something you don’t control then nothing will be able to help – it is impossible.
Changing the link in your content seems a lot easier.
Thanks John. I DID think of that. Thanks for building such a great plugin.
