Extra Widget Space?

Hello!
It’s the first time I’m building my own website and I just started yesterday so it’s not launched just yet… I’m currently having fun with the Sela theme and it’s looking great so far, but I’m wondering if there is any way to add more widget onto the front page? More specially, I have a Image Rotator Widget that I would like to add in full-width mood between the front page featured photo and the three front page widgets. I’m an illustrator and I’d really like to showcase some of my work on the front page in a rotating manner. Can it be done? And if so, what is the complete beginner way to do it? Many thanks in advance!

It’s possible to add a full-width image slider into Sela but I’d call it more of an intermediate task than a beginner one, because it involves making a child theme and some theme-file edits, since there is no full-width widget area in Sela.
Making a child theme means your changes won’t be overwritten when you update the theme. If you’re new to child themes, you can explore these guides:
