Thanks for your report and for your patience in awaiting my response while I was traveling and without Internet access.
There is no “list of known plugins MLA might have issues with“. I try to respond to any reported problems and ensure that MLA works with any plugin and theme I can test with.
You wrote “I only experience slowdown when accessing the plugin – and for a while after having left it, in the admins panel.” I haven’t been able to reproduce your symptoms and haven’t had any similar reports from other users. I assume that “when accessing the plugin” means you are accessing the Media/Assistant admin submenu; is that right? If so, does the problem occur when you move from one page to another on that screen?
There are two things you should check for:
- The “Entries per page” for the Media/Assistant admin submenu. If this is set to a large number, try reducing it to something like “20” to see if the problem is mitigated. Pull down the “Screen Options” area to see the current value.
- The “Where-used Reporting” options on the Settings/Media Library Assistant General tab. These should be disabled by default, but if they are enabled it can take a while to compile the information each time the Media/Assistant screen is accessed.
You wrote “I only use MLA to remap metadata“. Does the slowdown occur on the Settings/Media Library Assistant screen, e.g., on the General, IPTC/EXIF or Custom Fields tabs?
I will leave this topic unresolved until I hear back from you. Any additional details you can provide will be helpful. Thanks again for your patience and for your interest in the plugin.

Hi David,
Thanks for getting back to me.
“Where-used reporting” was the culprit. I had “Featured in” and “Inserted in” enabled. Disabling both made everything perform normal again.
Just for the record: I only had slow-downs while accessing media. Not in the MLA settings pages.
The media page was and still is showing 100 entries, and it’s performing fine now. Before disabling the above mentioned, I tried lowering shown entries to 20 and 1, and only had normal performance with 1. With 20 entries, there was some 30 seconds of waiting.
Thanks for the help!
Thanks for your update with the good news and the additional information. As I mentioned, the where-used reporting is a great tool when you need it, but it can really slow things down on larger sites.
