When I share an event on Facebook (or anything else), how can I edit what’s displayed? Right now, it shows some meta which doesn’t look great and I’d like to show instead maybe the event notes.

  • Yoast is the most popular SEO plugin out there. Is also has a separate section for Facebook and Twitter.

If you decide to start using Yoast, you might want to take a look at this tutorial to create EM specific variables for Yoast. 😉

I had Yoast before but it somehow broke my event lists so I had to get rid of it. So there’s no template I could edit or something?

Broke your Events List? Hmmm, haven’t heard that bug before… Making me curious 😉

No, there is no template, because SEO (and Facebook Sharing or Twitter Cards) are not part of neither WP Core nor EM Core. If not specifically set for Facebook (like Yoast or All-In-One SEO do) the default post excerpt with the main thumbnail (event image) are used. If you are not using the excerpt (you really should), the first X characters of the main content are indexed/used. In Events that’s, for most of us, the mark-up in the Single Event Settings.
And I mean the content in the front-end, because that is what the bots crawl, of course.

So I guess you would want to look at your excerpts, because that is also what Google uses for the Search Results. If you noticed it looks bad on Facebook, imagine the same info being used by Google. 😉

    Hello,

I have never encountered any issue with Events Manager and Yoast SEO. If Yoast doesn’t work for you, You could try and 3rd Party Plugins that adds OG Support to custom post types. You could try using: https://ww.wp.xz.cn/plugins/wonderm00ns-simple-facebook-open-graph-tags/

I’ll try Yoast again since I’ve moved a ton of plugins around since I got rid of it. I’ll get back to you guys if it doesn’t work. It was a very weird response before. My calendar and map were ok, but any lists would give me a 404.

Strange indeed… If you need help, let me know 😉

    Update:
It seems that it works until Yoast needs to update, then it kills the event list pages. Only when I rerun Yoast’s setup does it return to normal. So I guess problem solved, but definitely a weird feature.

That is very strange. I do not have that issue, not have I heard it before. Ypast (or any plugin) can update without any troubles.

You are really making me curious to your setup and how this could possibly occur. What theme are you using? Custom coded or publicly available? Running any custom coding that rewrites the slugs perhaps?
