In a case where you cannot edit or save posts, first check to make sure your site’s REST API is working properly. You can add wp-json to the end of your site URL and check to make sure an error is not displayed. Can you give that a try?
Also, thank you for the specific feedback about the HTML editor sticky setting as well as the content width. I can use that feedback.

Yes, of course– JSON and the API are working fine.
I’ve read hundreds of forum posts from other people having the same problems, checked the API, checked the .htaccess, checked the php.ini, and on and on.
I am grateful that the classic editor still exists as a plugin.

That’s good to confirm since you didn’t mention it earlier. The next best thing to do will be to open a help request in the forums because it sounds to me like something may be off in a configuration or a plugin in your case but more information is needed in order to help you with your case.
