Failed 2.6 upgrade
-
I have now tried with 2 blogs and the result is identical. The upgrade appears to work, the system then asks me to log on again and the password is never recognised.

using myphp I managed to change the password. 1 blog is now ok but the other now works in admin but the public page is just blank
Both of these blogs are on the same server, so it seems very odd that I am getting different errors.
1 blog seems to be working fine, but on the other blog I can log into admin and even make new posts but the public page show nothing.
If I run the upgrade it says upgrade is complete and wont go any further. I have even rebooted the server. I would apreciate some help here.
I can see this in the error log
PHP Warning: main(): URL file-access is disabled in the server configuration in /var/www/vhosts/……/index.php on line 17
However this is on the same server as the blog that works and looking at line 17
require(‘./wp-blog-header.php’); I can see nothing wrongIncidently you seem to have problems here as well. clicking on my profile gives a cant find error
In the admin section I selected settings and then without changing anything at all clicked save. My blog magically appeared.
This seems to be a very buggy upgrade.
I think the trick is to do exactly what the instructions say… delete wp-admin and wp-includes directories, and let the system replace everything else (making sure to back up your plugins and themes directories of course). My problems only existed because I did not do that, initially, I tried to get overwrite on everything, it did not quite do the job.
Well kyte, I did exactly that and I’m staring at white pages when I try to log in. π
I’ll try it again, but I think I’m hosed, even though I have a backup. It’s painful to go back too. Would be nice if there was a native upgrade tool that automated this mess. It seems that with every new release there are a ton of problems.
Darn, sorry, that was what happened to me, white page.
Oh wait… I remember… I also deactivated all my plugins and then restored them one by one, to see which might have been at issue… I did not restore the security scan one… and that was because it annoyed me. but that could be a path worth pursuing as well. perhaps theres a conflict somewhere…
o. just read your response in the other thread, doesnt look like I can help, sorry π Seems like everyone is experiencing variations on a theme here.
Thanks for the effort kyte… I did seem to get my stuff fixed.
It seems that automatic upgrade plugin was partially to blame, at least when I deleted that completely things started to come back. After I did that, the login box came up when I went to wp-admin but then there was another problem. Even though I logged in correctly, it prompted me to log in again. I had to delete my cookies, and then I got it. Then rebuilding permalinks and activating the necessary plugins got me back to where I should be!
