I tried to move to root but failed somewhere and been getting 404 not found notices.

Tried to restore myself to my subdirectory and it looked successful but began immediately having the oddity of my css working sometimes and not working at other times. I validated the css both parent and child and didn’t see anything that seemed fatal (and the css hadn’t change in the interim).

I had an htaccess file in the subdirectory that contained a long series of command relating to an old plugin so I renamed that file and created an htaccess following the article in the documentation. That didn’t seem to adversely affect anything, but the no css error was always intermittent so I don’t know if it was actually cured. The site did seem to be “speeded up” in its loading.

So I went to the root Directory and renamed the index file in root and the htaccess file there. And immediately began getting 404 errors on all pages and the wp admin page.

I restored those 2 files in root and was able to get back to my item but immediately on clicking a menu item I get the 404.

I have been working with another WordPress site for a LONG time and accomplished the move to root on it. At this point I am even afraid that my database has gone away. How can I confirm that my database is still alive?

The site is currently password protected but I can give a temporary password to the forum if someone would be so kind to help me out or steer me in the right direction.

I, of course, was to go live on Wednesday. Have been trying to work these issues for a few days, but have gone from bad to worse. They only popped up initially on the failed move to root, but migrated from some 404 errors to the intermittent css issues after I thought I had restored to the subdirectory.

I can bring the site up from root directory URL but on my computer at least, when you choose a page from the menu, it brings it up and shows the path to the subdirectory If you manually type in the url with page name without the subdirectory it will come up for me and will not show the subdirectory in the browser URL.

Can anyone out there test it and report your experience?

    Did it come up?

Were you able to bring up a page from the menu?

And if so, what was the URL given for the page?
