    I’m not sure this is the right forum, but a link to here was included in an admin email I received for a failed theme update.

    I have used this theme for years without any problems.
    But on the last update, I got this message.

    Unpacking the update…
    Installing the latest version…
    Removing the old version of the theme…
    Invalid data provided.
    Theme update failed.

    Of course, with the old theme removed and not replaced by the new version, I had a dead site. Unfortunately for me, the auto-update happened in the middle of the night, so my site was down for quite some time.

    To ensure it doesn’t happen again, I have turned off auto-updating for the time being.

    But I would like to know whether the error was caused by WordPress or by my theme supplier so I can investigate and resolve the issue.

    Can you assist?

    What theme was this?

    If you repeat the update, does it work? (Ruling out “one of those things”. 🙂 )

    Thanks for your prompt reply @sterndata !!

    I am using the Colormag Pro theme. I did update the theme manually and all was fine.

    I have two other sites using the same theme and there was no problem with the auto-update.

    But as luck would have it, it was my main site that had the problem. 🙂

    I’ve sent a support request to the theme developers, but I’m still waiting for a reply. They told me that they will need to contact their license managing system supplier.

    For the moment, I’m just trying to isolate where or why it happened. But that’s not always as easy as it seems.

    It sounds like it was “one of those things”… maybe there was a hiccup that caused a file to be incompletely replaced or some temporary issue on your server or theirs. Unfortunately, it’s next to impossible to look back and find the cause.
