I just installed this backup to test and it got an immediate fail no compression error.

What compression has to be on my new server to allow this plugin to actually work?

    Thanks

Also, from what I’m reading it appears the backup is not able to restore automatically without buying a license.

So can the backup you create be restored manually if we don’t get a license?

Also we’re interested in a license but we have over 100 sites on WP now and while we have R1 for our network, we are starting to allow companies to be on our server with their WP so now we are looking at a WP level to grab mysql of users compared to R1 that is just backing up the whole mysql on the server and that means we can’t just restore one client.

R1 the way we are doing it is fine for our ‘network’ since we never have to fix stuff in WP usually.

So we only had to restore baremetal when a hd crashes and the whole mysql needs to be restored.

Now with ‘clients’ on the network maintaining their own WP databases we expect people to have to do a local level mysql restore and not do a baremetal if a client messes up their data.

So that’s my needs, backup within wp a whole instance of a clients data that we can manually restore or if we get a big license for the network be able to automatically restore.

But right now out of the box we got a huge fail message saying no compression contact support.

So here I am, how do I fix the compression error.

Then I need to know if the file which I presume will be .gz can be manually restored by our techs.

    Thanks

PS. This looks promising if we can get it work locally on users in a large shared enviornment.

Thanks for posting the question. WPBackItUp requires the Zip Archive utility for compression. Here is a link to information and install instructions.

    http://php.net/manual/en/book.zip.php

We have been considering adding additional compression choices but to be frank, no one has ever really asked us to support anything other than zip.

As for restore, you are correct that the one click restore options is only available in the premium plugin. However, restoring manually isn’t too difficult for someone familiar with the WordPress database and content(plugins, themes, media files) and we even have an article that walks you thought how to restore the database.

Lastly, we have some very affordable options for customers with a large number of sites but please contact me here if you would like to discuss more.

Hope that helps and please post back here to let us know if you get the compression utility installed.

    Thanks for prompt reply.

We’re testing a few bu plugins now, so when we have time to add zip to server we will try yours.

    Thanks again.

    Happy Holidays
