Failed to initialize plugin: acfe_form

Hello,

We recently updated ACFE from 8.6.6 to 8.6.7 and after doing so we found that updating it seems to have broken the plugin. We get the error

Failed to initialize plugin: acfe_form

which (if checking in the dev console, can be expanded to)

Failed to initialize plugin: acfe_form TypeError: Cannot read properties of undefined (reading 'register')

This error occurs on any Gutenberg page editor where a custom element is used (and prevents us from using said elements, like uploading an image to a CTA element or uploading a featured image.

Has anyone an idea how to fix this error?

Thanks for the feedback!

Hmm that’s a strange issue. First, I would recommend to re-download and upload the plugin entirely, just to make sure the files are correctly updated.

Then I would recommend to disable all your plugins one by one (at the exception of ACF Pro and ACF Extended). If the problem persists, try to switch to the native WP Twenty Twenty One theme, in order to make sure the problem doesn’t come from a custom code somewhere in your theme.

Hello hwk-fr,

Sorry for the late reply, I didn’t see the email from your first reply. We kinda did what you said, but we solved it be rolling back WP to version 9.0. It seems that, at least on our site, any WP version > 9.0 breaks the plugin.

Hello!

Thanks for the answer. There is no WordPress “9.0” version tho, maybe you’re talking about a plugin?

The current official WordPress version is 5.9.3 (See official website).

I can confirm you that ACF Extended works from WordPress 4.9 up to 5.9.3, on a clean WP install.

As suggested in my previous answer, I would strongly recommend to try to disable your plugins one by one (at the exception of ACF & ACF Extended) in order to find which plugin is causing the issue. The error most likely come from a custom code/plugin that interfere with the WP Editor, and it may behave differently when you rollback to that “9.0” version.

Yeah, I meant to type 5.9.0 but I forgot the 5.

Our website is a custom built website made by another company on a non-standard WP build. Seems to break after wp 5.9.0.
