Failed Uploads? (Help with Themes)

    Hi

    I have been having a lot of trouble setting up my WordPress blog. I tried to install my blog multiple times using both the “Famous 5 Minute Install” and Fantastico. Neither method worked so I ended up taking advantage of the great Install4Free option (thanks!) to get things going.

    Currently, I’m running the latest version of WordPress on a Macbook with hosting from Lunarpages.com. I use cPanel to administer the blog and the FTP program I use is called Cyberduck.

    To install a theme (called 4638), I tried uploading its contents into my http://www.2dexterous.com/wp-content/themes/4638 folder. Though both Cyberduck and cPanel show that the files have been uploaded, when I navigate to the directory in Safari, only the classic and default themes appear in the list of files!

    If you need more details to help me solve my problem, please ask. All help will be greatly appreciated.

    if the theme isnt showing up there, and its not, you are not uploading it to where you think you are.

    once you have ftp’d into your site you should see almost immediately some directories — 1 of them is WWW.

    THAT NOT where you want to upload to.

    You will also see public_html .. thats where you need to be.

    Inside public_html will be some more directories, most notably, wp-content/ and inside that will be 2 more etc..

    Thank you so much! I have been hunting online all day to figure out why I’ve been having this stupid issue. From forums to message board to the IRC channel (#wordpress), NO ONE has been able to tell me that I need to go to the /public_html/wp-content folder and not the wp-content folder that is visible at the highest level. Wow. I will sleep with ease tonight. Thank you so much for all your help and saving the few patches of hair on my head that have not been pulled out yet.

    PS: if there is a wp-content at the base of your ftp, ie NOT inside public_html you CAN delete that folder, and everything in it. Its not needed, and will just take up space.
