Fallback related post

Hi, is there a way to link other post on certain post types with no taxonomy by creating a fallback? Because those post types returns empty related post. I do not want to use two plugins, as I simply like this plugin because it’s lightweight. So I hope there is a fallback code I could insert so it would return other post from similar post type instead of returning empty if no taxonomy is present?
