    Hi
I downloaded the latest version of wordpress on Thursday. It failed several times but I kept trying. Then on the final attempt I got a message saying there was a fatal error. I can’t get back onto my site. I can only get as far as log in. Then I get this message: Fatal error: Call to undefined function wp_oembed_add_host_js() in /websites/123reg/LinuxPackage21/ba/dd/og/baddognews.com/public_html/wp-admin/about.php

I don’t now what it means. I have been searching the web for ideas, but still have the problem. It did say somewhere that the message means not all the files downloaded correctly. However, that is of little use to me as I can’t access the site. I have de-catched and that did nothing. I do have a backup (thank goodness) but doubt I can use it as I am locked out of the site by this error message.
My site is badddognews.com, the strange thing is, it is still active as a reader, it is just not active for the administrator.
Can anyone help me – please.

Are you using Plesk for your hosting account’s panel? We’ve had a few requests quoting this after installing or updating from Plesk’s WordPress installer.

The solution is to update from Dashboard -> Updates in your Dashboard or manually: https://codex.ww.wp.xz.cn/Upgrading_WordPress_Extended

Or, install manually if you don’t already have an installation: https://codex.ww.wp.xz.cn/Installing_WordPress#Detailed_Instructions

Hi, Thanks for replying James. I think I may have bitten off more than I can chew. I love blogging but my skills are more with words than coding. That is why I was so attracted to WordPress and all the wonderful plugins. It is normally so easy for someone like me.

As I am completely locked out of my site, I can’t access the dashboard. I can’t do anything to it, though it is still very much live. Do you think it would be time to revert to a backup copy of the site?

Yes, the issue is sadly with the package Plesk is distributing via their updater.

In this case, restoring from a backup would be easiest, then do the update to 4.4 Dashboard -> Updates in your site’s Dashboard, not Plesk.
