• Fatal error: Call to undefined function add_theme_support()

I am totally new to WordPress and I am using the version supplied by my host. I think this is v2.7.1. I don’t think I can update this.

I wanted to look at a couple of new themes (‘Delicate’ & ‘My White Theme’). When I copy these into the themes sub-directory and activate them WordPress crashes.

The error is: Fatal error: Call to undefined function add_theme_support() in /home/xxxxxxx/public_html/subgroups/wp-content/themes/my-white-theme/functions.php on line 24

I have googled this error and had a quick look through the forum, but cannot find the cause. Can you please help me?

  • The theme you tried to use is meant for a much newer version of WordPress. Ask your hosts to upgrade their version of WordPress.

Thank you Esmi. I emailed my host who gave the following response:

“Apologies, a minor error causing an older version of the WordPress software to be available via our Site Software installer has been corrected, this will now correctly install version 3.0.4.”

I uninstalled the old version and now v3.0.4 is working fine with 4 themes that I am trying. The original themes seemed to have vanished (clssic & default), but I don’t think that will be a problem.

    My first problem solved!
