    When attempting to log in to the admin section, I get this error message:
    Fatal error: Cannot redeclare check_password_reset_key() (previously declared in /home/u544409791/public_html/wp-login.php:281) in /home/u544409791/public_html/wp-includes/user.php on line 1644

    After reading older posts on a similar subject, I have renamed my plugins folder plugins-old and have replaced the files wp-login.php and the include user.php with those from the “latest” zip file offered in an earlier forum post.

    I get the same error message.

    I just inherited the website. It is running 3.7.1.

    I’m an online ww.wp.xz.cn user and don’t “do” php. Here’s a question:

    If I back up the site in phpMyAdmin can I install a new (current) version of WP and then restore it with the backed-up DB? Or will it inherit the issue that’s causing this problem? Are there problems upgrading from 3.7 to 3.9?

    Why are you using an old copy of WordPress? Were you aware that your site is currently running a very real risk of being hacked? You need to upgrade WordPress asap.

    Esmi, as I said, I just inherited this site. How do I update if I cannot get into the admin area?

    Upgrade manually.
