Try:
– switching to the Twenty Ten theme by renaming your current theme’s folder in wp-content/themes using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.
– resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin.
– re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress.
Hey Esmi……the thing is….I’m not sure which is her current theme b/c there are about 7 with very similar “names” – just numbers are different.
Also, on the plugins instructions link above…..what does this mean:
“Login to your WordPress administration menus”? I can’t login at all.
Secondly, we have a .gz file back up from the WordPress Database Backup.
1. Rename all theme folders except the twentyten folder.
2. There’s nothing in that Codex section about logging into your site.
3. A database backup won’t help – it’s not a database issue.
Thanks Esmi. So, how do I do #3 (re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress)? I don’t think I have a fresh download.
On the codex, it’s the fourth bullet down in the “Create an empty plugins folder” section. The bullet says “Login to your WordPress administration menus”.

There’s a download link on the top right hand corner of this page.
On the codex, it’s the fourth bullet down in the “Create an empty plugins folder” section. The bullet says “Login to your WordPress administration menus”.
After you’ve performed the previous 3 bullet points, you should be able to login.
Oh…gotcha….let me try this and I’ll post back. Thank you so much!
I’m on step #3 – “re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress”. On the server there are the following files: .maintenance, index.php.wpau.bak, php.errorlog that are not in the original WP download. Do I keep those files on the server (and the .htaccess file) or remove them?
You guys are awesome. Thank you sooooo much! That worked. FYI – kept those files I mentioned above on the server.
Hi! I have the same problem as Sculley did, and after trying every other suggested method, I’m ready to re-upload all files and folders. I have a question though- (keep in mind that I’m relatively new at this but am learning FAST!) do I have to upload each file individually? I have a fresh download of wordpress, but when I go to upload the files, I can’t choose more than one at a time. Am I missing something? Is there a way to upload them that is not so incredibly…time consuming?
Also, out of curiosity if you know the answer…since I have a backup of my site that crashed(from wp-db manager,) we set up a “site # 2” if you will, to which I tried to upload the old database (from crashed site # 1.) When I “restored” the database from site 1 to site 2, nothing happened. I was trying to work around actually fixing my problem with site 1 (as it’s proven to be complicated,) but I’m just curious why it didn’t work. Any insight?
Thanks a ton!
