Fatal error: Can’t use function return value…

    Hi,

    I have tried installing this plug-in on two different WordPress sites, installed on different servers.

    After installing the plug-in, when I ask it to activate, I just get this message:

    Fatal error: Can’t use function return value in write context in /home/sites/nameofsite/public_html/wp-content/plugins/better-search/includes/modules/exclusions.php on line 42

    Any ideas what might cause this? (using WordPress 4.9.8)
