Hi, I’m having an issue and I’d like your help.

I’m using Cloudways as my hosting provider and Wordfence on my WooCommerce website. I also use the staging environment on Cloudways.

The first time I used staging, everything worked fine. However, after I upgraded my PHP version from 8.2 to 8.3, Wordfence started causing a fatal error only on the staging site.

“There has been a critical error on your website. Learn more about troubleshooting in WordPress.”

I completely deleted the staging site and created a new one, but the issue still happens.

How can I identify the cause and fix this?
Before the PHP upgrade, I didn’t have this problem.

    Hi @tonytheboss,

Our compatibility matches WordPress itself, so should be fully compatible with PHP 8.3. It’s quite common on hosting control panels for some installed PHP modules & options to differ when switching between versions. Make sure nothing is missing/unchecked for 8.3 that was available on 8.2 that Wordfence might require.

We tend not to troubleshoot Wordfence issues on staging or local servers, but the “critical error…” message will correlate with fatal errors in your server logs at the same timestamp. By all means paste any here if they don’t point to a quick solution at your end so we can look into them a bit more closely.

    Thanks,
    Peter.
