Fatal Error on Activation

Good Afternoon,

Like some other users, we are having an issue activating this plugin on both live and staging sites. We have tried rolling back to an earlier version of the plugin, but that has the same outcome. We have pushed the site to a staging instance, deactivated our theme, and all other plugins bar this and woo, and still have the same issues. Everything is up to date, but it is still not working. Do you have any idea what this might be? I’ll attach our status report below:

Thank you for reaching out about this issue. I can see you’ve already put in a lot of effort trying to get the plugin installed, and I understand how frustrating and exhausting it can be when it still doesn’t work.

To help identify the cause of the problem, could you please let me know how you’re attempting to install the plugin — through your WordPress admin dashboard or manually by downloading and uploading it? Also, what exactly happens when you try to install it? Do you receive any specific error messages?

The more details you can provide, the easier it’ll be for me to pinpoint the issue and guide you toward a solution.

Thank you for getting back @davec14,

This type of issue usually occurs due to a corrupted installation or a conflict with the server environment. Please try downloading the plugin manually from ww.wp.xz.cn, then upload it to your wp-content/plugins folder via FTP. After extracting the file, log back into your WordPress dashboard, activate the plugin, and let me know if that resolves the problem.

Thank you for getting back to me. I deleted the plugin and then using SFTP uploaded the fresh one from ww.wp.xz.cn. However this also didn’t work, and resulted in the same error:

Hi @davec14,

Thank you for getting back. The error in the log indicates that the file you’re trying to upload is either corrupted or incomplete, as it’s missing the includes/Admin/Product_Editor_Compatibility.php file. However, when I downloaded the plugin directly from ww.wp.xz.cn, that file was present.

This suggests that the issue may be due to an incomplete download or your server serving a cached or outdated version of the plugin.

To confirm, please extract the plugin ZIP file you downloaded and check inside the includes/Admin/ folder to see if the product_editor_compatibility.php file is there.

Ah, that is strange, when I check the downloaded files, that file is present. When i check through SFTP the file is also present on the server. Should I delete it again, clear all caches etc, and then try again?

Hi @davec14,

Yes, please go ahead and delete the newly added file. After that, clear all caches — including any server-side cache if available. I also recommend installing the WP-Optimize plugin to clean up and optimize your database. Once done, try the process again and see if it resolves the issue.

Hi Chiming in here,
We are having the exact same issue on our site.
PHP Fatal error: Uncaught Error: Class “WooCommerce\Square\Admin\Product_Editor_Compatibility” not found.
Re downloaded the plugin, updated and swapped out, cleared cached, and optimized.. It’s been doing this for months on a staging server. Pretty serious issue here and not sure what the bug is.

Good Morning,

So we have done all the above, and had no luck. I’ve even tried kinsta support to see if there are any caches they can clear, but they informed me that “Staging sites have no server-side caching enabled”. I have tried everything you have asked, but still no joy. Do you have any other suggestions?

Hi there!

Thank you for following the steps. Before escalating your issue internally, for testing purposes, could you please deactivate all plugins except WooCommerce and then try reinstalling the plugin once more to see if you still face the same issue?

I have done this multiple times, but with no luck. I have just done it again, everything else is off, and it still gave me the problem. Even got support to clear the cache using WP-CLI, but still the problem persists.

Hi there!

We’ve tried to replicate this issue on our end but were not able to reproduce it.
That’s why we recommend creating a completely new (fresh) WordPress site — not a staging copy — and testing it there.

This will help confirm whether the issue is specific to your current site setup or something else.
Please let us know the results after testing.
