From the FTP, download the file you’re editing before the error and re-upload it.
Do what mohdrafie tells you.
Also, before re-uploading it, check that the file has been save with “ANSI” encoding.
Same thing for the options.php mentioned. Download it, open it, and save it back again as “ANSI” file encoding.
Sometimes, zoulou encoding like UTF-8 for frenchy brokes PHP code.
Thanks Mohd Rafie & budykiller however I after I log in to word press it takes me straight to the fatal error screen.
Just log into your FTP (NOT wordpress) and delete the folder of the theme you tried switching TO.
“wp-content/themes/BAD_THEME_NAME”
Then, you should be able to log back into WP.
Hi Josh
I’m new to all this – don’t even know what FTP is leave alone how to log in.
Its embarrassing I know.
Try asking your hosts for assistance with this.
Yup… esmi knows what’s up 😉
They will be able to help you. You might also inquire about your CPanel… and how to access it.
Your CPanel is basically a place, where among other features, you can “browse” your file directories of your website. Just be careful in there 😉
My hosting company has now sorted the problem
Thanks everyone for your help.
