I have seen other posts that say the issue is resolved but I’m getting this error msg when trying to access the plugin settings page.

The Font Awesome plugin caught a fatal error.
Your WordPress server failed trying to send a request to the Font Awesome API server.

    The Inspector Console reports this:

Font Awesome plugin is broken: initial state data missing.

We are experiencing a high traffic load on the API server and working to get it resolved.

I’m sorry for the trouble there’s been here recently. We have two different ways that we’re working on long-term resolutions. One is to scale up our back end API services to handle increased traffic. The other is to change the way this plugin relies on the API server, further de-coupling it. The latter plugin changes have been implemented and I intend to release them, after some additional testing.

Plugin version 4.0.0-rc22 has been released, which includes changes to how the plugin interacts with the API server. I expect those changes to make this anomaly much less likely to occur. (It’s designed so that it never occurs. But the internet is a big place, and I’ve learned not to say that something is impossible 🙂

As mentioned above, server-side changes to the API server have also been made (twice!) to handle huge traffic spikes more gracefully. So I do not expect to see this issue occur again.
