‘Fatal error’ when activating my plugin

I’m writing a plugin and when I try to activate it I get the, ‘Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error’ message. I can’t figure out why, though. Does the actual error get logged anywhere, or is there some way to tell what the problem is?
