Fatal errors after update to 7.0.2

My site has automatic updates enabled for the Shield (wp-simple-firewall) plugin. Earlier this week I got a notification that Shield had been updated to 7.0.2. Since then my site has been down with 500 errors, although up occasionally (as reported by Pingdom). By renaming the Shield folder in wp-content/plugins I am able to log into my site and use the dashboard. I have updated all my plugins and my theme (Weaver Xtreme), also updated WP to 5.0.3 (was at 4.9.9). After updating everything I installed Shield again from scratch. Here is the current behavior:

a) My site is functional with Shield disabled
b) when I enable Shield I get the following error message when I try to log in or display the home page –
Fatal error: Call to a member function prefixOptionKey() on null in /home/moonli39/public_html/wp-content/plugins/wp-simple-firewall/src/processors/plugin_badgewidget.php on line <b>14</b>

Sorry about the trouble you’re having.

Could I ask when you said you reinstalled it from scratch, how exactly did you do that? Using Plugins > Add New within your WordPress admin?

Yes, I used Plugins > Add New

We can’t reproduce the error, and we can’t understand how it’s possible. We’ve added something to 7.0.3 to try and mitigate it however and this will be released hopefully tomorrow. Until then, you may wish to disabled Shield

I have installed 7.0.3 but the problem remains. I deleted the old version and installed 7.0.3 from scratch (via Plugins > Add New) Any ideas what I can do next?

I’m at a loss on this error. We can’t see how it’s even possible in the code that’s there and it’s not coming up anywhere else.
Would you perhaps have this plugin installed twice?

Discovered this is due to very old code from an outdated plugin,
namely: https://ww.wp.xz.cn/plugins/widget-builder/
which at the time of writing hadn’t been updated for 3+ years.
