here is a movie where I bring in that feed, set the image to be a featured image, and show that the image is coming in as a featured image

Note, you need to set your wordpress theme to show the featured image…did you do that?
Yes, the theme is using the featured image function. I am trying to display the RSS to this page – http://theictlab.org/news/ . If you scroll down, you will see that the imported posts are blank (no text or featured image) only the title.

not sure what to say, I can’t reproduce this on my server since the image comes in fine

I would look at the post directly in the admin of WordPress to confirm whether or not you have a featured image.
I checked directly to the post and it looks like the plugin gets only the title, no content or featured image. See screenshot here – http://oi59.tinypic.com/xaxkpd.jpg

that’s strange..since this is not happening on my servers. If it’s getting the title, then the plugin is getting all the content…for some reason wordpress is not allowing it to go into your database. I would try deleting the plugin and then trying it again (that’s like rebooting to clear out any problems).
