To be honest, I was not aware that you set featured image using the media button, I must be blind 🙂
Frontier post will take the first image added to the post as thumbnail (this should also be the featured image), but I agree it should be possible to set it from the media button
By the firs image added you mean, the first one added with the “add media” button?

Yes, if you add an image to the post, it will be set as thumbnail, and I believe it is the same as featured image.
It is in my plans to enable selection of thumbnail/featured image from frontend, but I am struggling a bit with right now 🙂
Hi, First of all.. great plugin. It greatly simplifies lives of site creators to provide the ability to create posts without getting to the painful wp-admin module.
Did you every get a chance to resolve this? When I select featured image while creating a post using Frontier plugin, it is not setting the featured image. Any help in this regard would be immensely helpful.

No I haven’t managed to solve this yet, still on my list though. I need to get the 2.0 version out first – I have have been very busy with other things, but hope to complete v. 2 in a couple of weeks
