Featured Image as responsive images

I was wondering what other folks were using to solve this problem: I’d like to use the featured image in the page/post and have it serve up different images based on device/display.

I have used the mobble plugin and that works nicely but the plugin doesn’t currently support images for retina displays.

Another one with potential is picturefill.js but that one doesn’t use the featured image.

If anyone has any advice that would be great. Thanks in advance.
