Hello,
I’m looking for a solution regarding the featured images for categories.

I found some posts with the tip to set a _thumbnail_id field.
I did it for taxonomies and sites and it shows up for sites and categories in the backend. So that worked without any further coding.

But as I checked back, if there is a featured image available in the link while sharing via Social Media, it only worked for my about page (which is a site).
My main categories are still without any picture in the link.

What do I have to do, to show it?

Hello,

Thanks for the feedback. This topic is about general WordPress/PHP development and not about ACF Extended tho. For your information, there’s no such a feature as “Featured Image” for Taxonomies, that is builtin WordPress. You’ll have to install a plugin in order to achieve that. The post you read saying you should use _thumbnail_id meta field in Taxonomies was misleading. This meta field only works for posts, pages and custom post types. Adding _thumbnail_id in a taxonomy won’t have any effect.
