Featured Image: file requirements?

    Hello,

    My issue is sometimes the Featured Image feature doesn’t work for me. Like, nothing. No image in the Featured Image widget. No image displayed when the episode posts to the web site. No image in social media.

    The ‘Set featured image’ prompt changes to ‘Removed featured image’ but there no image.

    It works sometimes. And on the same episode, some images work and some don’t. I do a movie podcast, and the image for each post is a screen cap from the movie. So each image has the same dimensions. All are JPEG 1280 x 720.

    The weird part is, the only difference between the images that work and those that don’t is file size. Files larger than 100 kb work. Files smaller than 100 kb do not. (1 exception after trying about 20 different files.)

    I’m on WordPress 4.9.4, Seriously Simple Podcasting 1.19.5, and the theme is Twenty Seventeen 1.4.

    Any thoughts? (Other than, make sure all the images are over 100 kb)

    Hi there, and thanks for the message. You’re referring to the featured image in your blog posts (or post archive page) themselves, right? Not with the HTML5 player?

    We have not done anything to modify how your theme would output or handle featured images. We do have logic in the HTML5 player that only square images will be displayed there, but nothing to do with how and where your theme would display featured images on any type of page templates.

    Have you changed to another stock WP theme to see how that affects things?

    Long story, short: it’s working now, and I have no idea how or why.

    Long story:
    Thanks for the response. I was referring to the “Featured Image” widget within the SSP episode form. Not the HTML5 player. And I am running stock WP, SSP, everything else. The only modification I made was in PHP.INI and .htaccess to increase the max file size and max post size for longer audio files.

    The images are widescreen (1280×720) but this is the same for the ones that work and ones that don’t (or didn’t).

    So tonight my plan was to do a screen cap video showing the issue, with one image working and one not working.

    But now it’s working! Even image files that didn’t display as the Featured Image yesterday are showing fine now. I can’t make it fail all of the sudden. And I tried.

    So what changed? The only update I made was to the latest version of the Loginizer plug-in, which is for brute force login attacks. There’s even an update to SSP I did not install yet, so I could demonstrate the issue, in case the update fixed it.

    But somehow, it’s fixed.

    So….thank you? 😉

    And I just did the update to SSP 1.19.6, and it is still working. Literally the same image file that I tried a dozen and it would not appear as the episode featured image? Totally working.

    So whatever you did or did not do, thank you. I love SSP. =)
