Featured image header space in internet explorer?

Hi,

Bit of a funny thing happening with my site. My theme (SKT Black Pro) has the option to add a featured image to pages which appears as a banner at the top of each page as can be seen on this page:

However if no featured image is set then there is a huge gap at the top of the page above the page title when viewed through internet explorer and edge but it fine through chrome and safari. Example can be seen on this page:

The is an option to put an image in this header space on all pages and this does display fine but some pages I want a custom banner (featured image) and some pages I just want the content with no banner, but can’t have this massive gap that makes the page look empty!
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
