    Hey,
So I’m uploading my featured images in a 2:1 aspect ratio, with resolution 2048 x 1365, jpeg, sized around 800kb. The images look ok in actual blog posts, but on the homepage which chronologically lists all posts, they seem to be of a poor resolution, they don’t seem ‘sharp’. Is there anything I can do about this? Perhaps a change in the CSS which will use higher quality images on the front page?

Also, in general? Are there particular image settings you can recommend for optimal quality vs. load time?

Thank you so much for your work 🙂

Looking at the generated html of the front page, it seems that images are being displayed at 1024 x 683 (3:2), while you have previously stated in another post that featured images are in a 2:1 ratio. Could this be why the quality seems lowered?

    Hey Daniel,

Because Tracks is responsive the size of the image will depend on the device used to access your site.

For example, if someone visits your site on a mobile device, the Featured Image may be 400px wide. However, on a laptop it may display at 900px wide.

While the exact size depends on the device, Featured Images in Tracks always maintain a 2:1 ratio on the Posts. This means that an image that is 1,200px by 600px will display uncropped at all screen sizes.

1,200px by 600px is a good size to use since it will suit the vast majority of screens used to access your site.

For the blog, I’m afraid there isn’t a way to nail the size of the images because they are dependent on the content on the other half of the post for their height.

On the blog, tracks will also use the “large” version of the image rather than the “full size” version to help with load times. It sounds like large version of the image may not be big enough to serve the images crisply on your site. What you can do is change the size of the “large” image size from your media settings (Settings > Media).

Once you increase the large image size, you may need to run this plugin to get the existing images to update to the new larger size: https://ww.wp.xz.cn/plugins/regenerate-thumbnails/
