Featured Image – meta data erasing

    Hello,

    One of my client noticed something weird with the meta data of a featured image.
    If he sets the title, caption, alt and description, in the “set featured image” window everything is working fine.

    If he removes the title and caption and save the post/page, the description is emptied out. In fact all the fields are grey-out (even the URL). If I want to fulfill the field, I need to click on another image, and go back to my image and now the field are fulfillable.

    I tried to replicate it with two different themes (custom theme and Twenty Seventeen), and two wordpress versions, the problem is still there. I don’t have any JS error in my console.

    I can replicate the same error on a bare bones installation, there is apparently a bug in the featured image attachment data handling. I suggest you post a Trac ticket to report this. Be sure to include the exact steps to follow to replicate the error. If no one is able to replicate the error due to ambiguous information, the error cannot be fixed.

    To help eliminate possible confusion, in WP terms this is not “meta data” because the data is stored with the attachment post and not in the postmeta table. I would call it “attachment data” instead of “meta data”.
