Featured Image / Single Image

I have posts with single or multiple images. Hence I have activated Automatically add gallery activated in Postie.

Problem:
If I have a post with one image it uses this image as featured image in the post (which is good) but it also adds a gallery to the post showing the same image again.

How can I avoid creating this gallery if I have only one image.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
