All the MU plugins that are out there, they will work with Multisite, I mean generally, without the plugin author having to alter them?

I have an unusual problem with your plugin.
i install it and it says that i use the version 1.0, then i get a notification to upgrade to 2.8.2 , I upgrade succesfully everything seems but it won’t upgrade, i still see version 1.0 and the notification to upgrade to 2.8.2, as many times as i do it.
i tried to upgrade manually as well and the same happens.
any ideas?
version number within the plugin’s php file?
