There is always a small transaction fee for whatever payment gateway you want to use (payment gateways charge that transaction fee when customers buy from you). Stripe has that fee also.

PayPal pro has a monthly fee in addition to the transaction fee.

    Hi there,

But dpeanut the plugin subscription say that by using this it waves the monthly PayPal pro fee? Perhaps I’m misunderstanding.

    Let me know your thoughts

Hi – I had the same question so I called PayPal and they confirmed they are able to waive the monthly $30 fee. I went ahead and signed up to use Paypal Pro, you have to fill out an application with Paypal first before downloading the plugin, my application was just approved yesterday. I received a separate email that confirmed my monthly fee is waived, too. So i have it on record in case anyone at Paypal disputes it with me. Since the plugin will allow customers to directly pay with credit card without leaving your website, there is no transaction fee according to Paypal (unlike using regular Paypal plugin which bring the customer to Paypal’s site to complete the purchase, and hence the 2.9% txn fee, etc). I guess I will find out once customers start purchasing products from my site. πŸ™‚

Thank you for confirming! So I should give PayPal a call and see what they can tell me.

Also I assume I will need to purchase a SSL certificate for this to work on my site?

Have you tried this plugin yet, does it work smoothly?

And just to confirm, since the $30 monthly fee is waved, there is no actual charge for every successful order made on my site via credit card using this plugin?

Yes you need an SSL certificate for your site if you use Paypal Pro.
I installed the plug-in and the fields for credit card info showed up on my checkout page with no issues. I have not tested it though to see what happens after the credit card info is entered during checkout, yet.

Regarding the fees, that’s what I was told – monthly fee is waived, and since the customer stays on your site to checkout and pay, no transaction fee, but like I said, I have not turned on the function yet for my customers so I can’t confirm what will happen yet regarding the txn fees. πŸ™‚

    Ah okay, I understand!

    Thanks for your help!

I called Paypal, the sales department said there was no discount and they never heard of any kind of discount or waived fee for Pro offered.

Is this for real? If so, is there someone specific we should contact? I’d love to use the plugin.

    Thanks!

You need to call a specific number so it goes to the correct PayPal pro team. Please see the details at the bottom of the following page:

Ok, I called them back. They once again were unaware, but I spoke with a supervisor and shared the link you provided and they said they’d honor the discount.

Looking forward to using the plugin!

    Hello,

Is it still possible to call the number to get paypal pro fees waived ?

I haven’t seen anything on the page you linked.

    Thanks
