• quick question.

If I create a field group, is it better to assign it to a specific post type or keep it more general and filter later? Just trying to follow best practice.

    tnx in advance.

  • Hi @allredjulien2443,

I sincerely apologize for the long delay in getting back to you on this. I’m very sorry you were left waiting for an answer!

To answer your question, it’s highly recommended to assign your field group to the most specific location possible, such as a specific custom post type or page template, rather than keeping it general. Setting strict Location Rules ensures that your custom fields only load exactly where they are needed. If you leave the rules too broad, WordPress will attempt to load those fields onto every single edit screen across your backend, which can slightly impact performance and create a confusing, cluttered interface for anyone trying to edit content.

You can read more about how to properly configure these settings in our documentation here: https://www.advancedcustomfields.com/resources/custom-location-rules-v5-8/

If you have any other questions about setting up your field architecture, please feel free to open a direct support ticket with us and we would be happy to help!

    Best regards,
    Patroba
