File manager solution?

Hey everybody,

Is there anything out there that is a more elegant way of organizing files uploaded to the media library? I have roughly 1000 PDFs, word documents, etc., that I link to on my site and I make changes to the files frequently and reupload them. Are there any plugins out there or any development changes coming down the pipeline that will make the Media Library more functional for this type of set up, where I can easily link to files on my pages/posts and also have them automatically updated whenever I upload the latest version of the document?
