Currently, the Filr folder is created within /public_html/wp-content/. I am wondering if there could be an option to create this asset folder at the home level, outside of public_html. I am doing this today with another download manager, and it seems to totally eliminate the potential to access files using an external URL (since the folder is not within public_html). Am I seeing this correctly, and would that be possible?

  • Hey @lowellhuff,

    thanks for your question.

While there is a filter to change the directory outside of /uploads/ or even outside /wp-content/ it still needs to be recognizable by WordPress, so it has to be at least part of the directory where WordPress is installed.

With FILR Pro you can use “Secure Links” which completely hides the path to the directory and also adds an additional security layer as it delivers the files via PHP.

This way, FILR checks for user permission, download-and-date expiration, and more before even allowing the files to be downloaded.

    Best regards,
    Patrick
